Very interesting! I remember when Ebola broke out. Many folks either did not pay attention or must have forgotten. There is only one reason and one reason only why COVID-19 is as bad as it is: “For those of you complaining about Trump being blamed for the COVID-19 pandemic: I thought I would post a little history lesson for everyone on both sides of the political divide. I think it’s important that we understand the truth, especially come November when it’s time to vote. Forgive the length, but hey, we all have time on our hands to read, correct? In December 2013, an 18-month-old boy in Guinea was bitten by a bat and died a brutal death a day later. After that, there were five more fatal cases. When Ebola spread out of the Guinea borders into neighboring Liberia and Sierra Leone in July 2014, President Obama activated the Emergency Operations Center at the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta. The CDC immediately deployed CDC personnel to West Africa to coordinate a response that included vector tracing, testing, education, logistics, and communication. Altogether, the CDC, under President Obama, trained 24,655 medical workers in West Africa, educating them on how to prevent and control the disease before a single case left Africa or reached the U.S. Working with the U.N. and the World Health Organization President Obama ordered the re-routing of travelers heading to the U.S. through certain specific airports equipped to handle mass testing. Back home in America, more than 6,500 people were trained through mock outbreaks and practice scenarios. That was done before a single case hit America. Three months after President Obama activated this unprecedented response, on September 30, 2014, we detected our first case in the U.S.A. A man had traveled from West Africa to Dallas and somehow slipped through the testing protocol. He was immediately detected and isolated. He died a week later. Two nurses who tended to him contracted Ebola but later recovered. All the protocols had worked. It was contained. The Ebola epidemic could have easily become a pandemic, but thanks to the actions of our government under President Obama, it never did. Those THREE EBOLA CONFIRMED CASES were the ONLY cases of Ebola in the U.S.A. because Obama did what needed to be done THREE MONTHS PRIOR TO THE FIRST CASE. Ebola is even more contagious than COVID-19. Had Obama not acted swiftly, millions of Americans would have died horrible, painful, deaths like something out of a horror movie (if you’ve never seen how Ebola kills, it’s horrific). It is ironic because since President Obama acted decisively we forget about his actions since the disease never reached our shores. Now the story of COVID-19 and Trump’s response that we know about thus far: Before anyone even knew about the disease (even in China) Trump disbanded the pandemic response team that Obama had put in place. He cut funding to the CDC, and he cut our contribution to the World Health Organization (WHO). Trump fired Rear Admiral Timothy Ziemer, the person on the National Security Council in charge of stopping the spread of infectious diseases before they reach our country – a position created by the Obama administration. When the outbreak started in China, Trump assumed it was China’s problem and sent no research, supplies or help of any kind. We were in a trade war, why should he help them? In January he received a briefing from our intelligence organizations that the outbreak was much worse than China was admitting and that it would definitely hit our country if something wasn’t done to prevent it. He ignored the report, not trusting our own intelligence. When the disease spread to Europe, the World Health Organization offered a plethora of tests to the United States. Trump turned them down, saying private companies here would make the tests “better” if we needed them. However, he never ordered U.S. companies to make tests and they had no profit motive to do so on their own. According to scientists at Yale and several public university medical schools, when they asked for permission to start working on our own testing protocol and potential treatments or vaccines, they were denied by Trump’s FDA. When Trump knew about the first case in the United States he did nothing. It was just one case and the patient was isolated. When doctors and scientists started screaming in the media that this was a mistake, Trump claimed it was a “liberal hoax” conjured up to try to make him “look bad after impeachment failed.” The next time Trump spoke of COVID-19, we had SIXTY-FOUR CONFIRMED CASES but Trump went before microphones and told the American public that we only had FIFTEEN cases “and pretty soon that number will be close to zero.” All while the disease was spreading, he took no action to get more tests. What Trump did was to stop flights from China from coming here. This was too late and accomplished nothing according to scientists and doctors. By then the disease was worldwide and was already spreading exponentially in the U.S. by Americans, not Chinese people as Trump would like you to believe. On April 11, 2020, we had 529,768 COVID-19 CONFIRMED CASES and 20,456 COVID-19 DEATHS in the U.S.A. As of last evening, April 13,2020 we had 554, 849 COVID-19 CONFIRMED CASES and 21, 942 COVID-19 DEATHS in the U.S.A. According to the stats as published by the CDC, the U.S.A. had: 25, 081 new cases in 2 days 1,486 new deaths in 2 days The actual number is undoubtedly more than triple that amount. As if you needed one more reason to vote, here it is. I did not write this.
As I prepare mentally, emotionally and spiritually to speak on the topic of Gratefulness in a few days, I found myself asking this question while so many things are going on around me. I really would appreciate your help if you are reading this blog. Our church lost a precious woman of God who was my dear friend, suddenly and totally unexpectedly last Friday. It was truly a blindside hit that left me wounded and hurting. Then a few days ago I find out that my fraternity brother who was my housemate in college, an ordained minister of the gospel and dear friend went home to be with Lord without any prior knowledge of the extent of his illness. Early this morning, my daughter says 6 thought provoking words, “Dad we have no hot water!” I go downstairs to the basement and you guessed it, the hot water heater busted. as I sloshed through water all over the basement. The Bible tells us that God does not give us more than we can bear and I am reminded of the lyrics, “Don’t push me cause I’m close to the edge, I’m trying not to lose my head, It’s like a jungle sometimes It makes me wonder how I keep from going under.” I began to wonder how I keep from going under and I realized that it is God’s grace that is the same, yesterday and today and my response to each situation is that of “Gratefulness,” Are you feeling me? When I think about what I am grateful for it keeps me grounded in my faith and in hope. I have decided to ask everyone what they are grateful for each day, so we share our gratefulness as a community. Some may be grateful that they made it to work on time today or that their child got an “B” on a test in a subject that they have been struggling with all school year. I would be so grateful to you for taking a moment out of your day to post on this blog what you are grateful for each day for the next 10 days. For your participation, I believe that you are going to be blessed the extraordinary favor of God! Lets do this!

Group presentations will require group members to research their content, utilize technology and all the resources made available to them in our classes.
Categories for Presentations:
HBCU vs Ivy League
Public vs Private
Universities vs Colleges
In State vs Out of State
The presentations will be judged on dynamic content, creativity and accurate information that answers the following questions:
A). What are major Pros and Cons for attending each of the choices?
B). What can and will we do to cover the cost of these institutions without burdening our parents?
C). What is the best way to choose a college that will meet our academic and financial interests, cultivate our leadership abilities, provide a great network for our career path and keep us engaged in issues relevant to our community?
D). List at least 10 must view websites that all current high school/college bound students should frequently use to help them prepare and overcome challenges on their journey to college and career success?
The above picture can be taken two ways. It could represent the current dominant reality of high student loan debt that has become a burden to a significant population of college graduates. But, what I am suggesting is that it can also represent a new vision, a powerful vision of students graduating debt free and starting their after college careers off with money in their pockets, savings and investments rather than debt. Do you want it? Are you seeing it? Are you feeling it? There is a segment of the population of student graduates who start their career off with no student loan debt because they and their parents were instrumental in being strategic, intentional and focused on securing scholarship money that not only covered their college expenses, but put additional money in their pockets while in school. All things are possible for those who believe and follow the plan!
With my powerful vision, students are able to use a significant amount money earned from jobs while in college and gifts from family directly into investments and/or starting a business because they have tapped into this great land of opportunities and free advertising from the internet It is true, if you are willing to work hard, work the right plan and follow the advice and the secure the support of those who have been successful in moving in the opposite direction of student loan debt to the promised land of financial independence, then you need to connect with my powerful vision. There are proven plans, systems and blueprints that work for losing weight, building a house to gaining wealth from stocks, options, and real estate investments. I am here to let you know that there is a proven system for winning scholarships to offset your college costs and start investing in your self and not debt. That doesn’t even sound right. Investing in debt?
Imagine this vision that I shared with my students and parents this summer when I presented my workshop during the At the Well Leadership Academy at Princeton University with regards financial aid and winning scholarships: “Ladies, can you imagine what type of graduation presents you might receive if your parents had to pay zero dollars for your college education? I see someone getting a down payment for their townhouse and/or an Infinity Q37x (that’s what I drive)? Do you see where we are going? Follow this proven system and you will be on the road to financial freedom long before college graduation.”
Like any plan, the sooner you begin, the more structured and focus you become, the higher your level of success will be. My plan applies to students from middle school to students in their junior year of college. I have over 27 years of experience in higher education working in the field of financial aid. There was a time when financial aid administrators would go out to college nights and tell parents and students that you do not have to pay for “financial aid or scholarship consultants.” From my perspective, I would suggest that the language has now changed because so many students are finding themselves in unprecedented levels of debt.
I am suggesting that parents and students should not pay excessive fees for any services but be open to investing moderately to secure the tools to be self sufficient when it comes to successfully finding, applying and winning scholarships to offset college costs from “legitimate and authentic” consultants who have integrity. I have been researching this area for several years (because I am a research junkie) and gathering the best information from the success stories of students who have shared their blueprints for winning large amounts of scholarships. I also have a high level of respect for the professionals who have produced some very important resources for this cause. You can no longer limit your scholarship searches to online (one shoe does not fit all) and if you want to win, you are going to have to work it on the ground!! Stay tuned because Scholarship Bootcamp 1o1 is coming soon to help families win so they can invest in a college education debt free!!
I would appreciate anyone sharing their successes, challenges and opinions about anything I mentioned in this blog.
