A Question for Teachers: Do you teach or do you educate?

This highlights the difference between teaching and educating as contrast for understand why many students are not engaged in the learning experience in their classrooms.

  1. I think that if we valued the positions people hold in schools more, we would end up with more educators rather than teachers. According to the Huffington Post, in 2012 Finland topped the list of 40 developed countries with the best education systems. Their teachers are highly educated; each teacher has a masters degree. Only one of eight applicants to teacher education are accepted making whoever gets a teaching position more selective. I think that America as well as other countries should follow the reforms that Finland made in order to have the great education system they have today.
